They have over 4 decades of excellence and scientific expertise behind them, but they needed a digital partner who could take on their online activity in the UK, US, and Germany. Their goal? To receive excellent results that met their ambitious revenue and ROI targets.

WHAT THEY NEEDED

YorkTest needed a true multichannel solution, so we had a lot of freedom within their brief to propose what would make a genuine difference to their bottom line.
For web retainer services, we suggested a dual-pronged approach that focused on website maintenance plus a support retainer. This enabled both reactive and proactive development work, offering flexible packages on a monthly or quarterly basis to explore new features, or simply address tasks like WordPress/plugin or form functionality updates and broken links.   In the case of conversion rate optimisation (CRO), we thought a monthly retainer would work best. Our plan encompassed regular incremental tests to pinpoint any website changes that might improve engagement and conversion rate improvements.   On the PPC front, we actually have a full YorkTest PPC case study outlining this side of the brief! However, most notably, we wanted to address the ineffective use of signals and machine learning, as this was unnecessarily throttling reach and performance potential.   SEO and Content were also essential services, as we needed to uncover relevant topics that could either be briefed to the YorkTest team to write (based on search volumes and intent), or created by our own content experts. Because YorkTest’s scientific team was on hand to review all content for accuracy, it was soon apparent that the latter approach would be best!   Finally, both organic and paid social were included in the agreement. There were many US-specific factors to consider, as tastes and terminology differ geographically and we wanted to ensure all social content was engaging and contributing to solid ROI.

Initial Investigations

HOW WE APPROACHED IT

As an e-commerce business, YorkTest needed us to work to agreed targets, and as a performance agency, we fully understood. As we began our partnership, we therefore agreed upon targets as quickly as possible to draw a clear path for us to follow.
ROAS and revenue targets were established, traffic goals for any content pieces that we planned to create and deploy were agreed upon, and KPIs for conversion rate were set. This allowed us to say objectively whether we were performing as required, or if any particular area needed more focus.   Agreeing ways of working, meeting frequencies, lines of communication, and nuances like differing approaches for international territories were all covered in onboarding. Integration to our development suite was made, and access to tools like GA4, plus WordPress and Paid Search accounts were all arranged in advance so we could hit the ground running.   As our retainer with YorkTest evolved, we also introduced service-specific workflows that reflect our strategic plans of action, task trackers to ensure that nothing is missed, weekly meetings, and an interactive dashboard to monitor our KIPs according to each service area.

SEO/Content

We produce regular blog and case study content via a content calendar. Collaboration between our technical SEO and web development experts continues to improve site speed, eliminate broken links, and identify opportunities for improvements through gap analyses.

Paid Search

We worked closely with YorkTest to leverage their wealth of data, using Google Ads’ expansive toolset, and our own expertise to transform the way we target and convert their users. We’re now taking our first steps in reaching the next set of milestones, increasing the reach and scale of our performance, as well as entering new international markets.

Social Media

Organic awareness posts and brand-building activity showcase YorkTest as an authority. Meanwhile, Meta Ads contribute strongly-performing, targeted creative that adheres to a consistent tone of voice. Over time, we also evolved our strategy to employ the use of content creators for user-generated content, and this method of storytelling works great.

CRO

Our experts have carried out heatmapping, analysed behavioural trends of site usage, AB tested to identify areas of improvement, and consulted with the wider team to assess our impact. Following our usual high standards, fully transparent CR targets have been set.

Development

We’ve combined maintenance as well as proactive on-site upgrades. Working on the e-commerce functionality, security, site speed, and streamlining user experience has ensured the site’s health remains as robust as it possibly can be.

Digital PR

Following our initial period of working together, we identified that there was an opportunity to develop backlinks to the site and increase the wider coverage that YorkTest achieved. We’ve therefore worked with influencers, bloggers, and publications to spread the word, starting in the US, and then moving on to the UK!

The Results

We continue to see some great growth on the YorkTest account using our multi-discipline approach, and we were delighted to be able to add digital PR services to our partnership after such a fast start. We’re certain that performance will continue to build in strength!
